Robert Schumann’s Scenes from Goethe’s Faust or Szenen aus Goethes Faust is one of Robert Schumann’s ambitious works. Robert Schumann wrote it over ten years in the mid-nineteenth century. Unlike an opera Robert Schumann chose important poetic moments from both Part I and Part II of Goethe’s story. He turned them into an oratorio. The story follows Gretchen’s fall Faust’s endless chase of ideals and his blindness and Faust’s final spiritual redemption through Gretchen’s devotion. Musically Robert Schumann’s work moves from sad solos to huge victorious choral scenes showing Robert Schumann’s skill, with orchestra and voice.
